(2264) A well known man once said, “This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation had full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police…more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future.” His name was Adolph Hitler, and the year was 1935. Was he really concerned with making Germany’s streets safer? When he was through, Germany hardly had any streets left. Another well known man called for “the disarming of the bourgeoisie.” His successor boasted, “If the opposition…refuse to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.” These two people were V. I. Lenin, and J. V. Stalin, the first leaders of the U.S.S.R. Who were the “bourgeoisie” and the “opposition?” They were the people who didn’t want to give up their freedoms to an atheistic totalitarian dictatorship that was responsible for the mass murder of tens of millions of people. Why would scheming future dictators first want to disarm their own people? So that any dissenters could easily be destroyed. Are American gun-control advocates planning to disarm our citizens so they can be more easily conquered? A few of them are, but most of them are just fed up with all the gun violence in our streets and in our homes. The one stumbling block to their vision of a safer America is they don’t/won’t realize that when you take guns out of the hands of law-abiding Americans, all you’ll have left is armed criminals. Law abiding citizens who own guns do not use their guns to commit crimes or cause violence. They also follow the gun registration laws. Criminals who own guns use them to commit crimes and to cause violence. They laugh at gun registration laws. Gun registration laws only work for law abiding citizens. Even gun confiscation will not prevent criminals from having guns. If they can’t steal guns, they’ll buy them on the black market, or build them. Should law abiding citizens disarm themselves in the hopes that criminals will suddenly go out and get legitimate jobs, pay their taxes, and become pillars of the community? In America, the city with the strictest gun control laws is Washington, D. C. It also has the highest murder rate. By using gun-grabber logic, it should be the safest. So it is not gun control that we are having a problem with, but criminal control. On April 28, 1996 a mass murderer shot 35 people in Australia. The government, in the heat of the moment, outlawed most guns and passed Draconian laws that make it legal for police to go door to door without a search warrant, confiscating guns, copying your computer’s hard drive, and seizing your records. Within two years after Australians were disarmed: armed robberies were up 73%, unarmed robberies up 28%, kidnappings up 38%, assaults up 17%, manslaughter up 29%, nationwide homicides up 3.2%, and homicides in the state of Victoria up 300%. All this after a 25-year steady decrease in homicide with guns, and armed robbery. It seems the outlaws didn’t turn in their guns and now they’re free to roam around doing what they want to an unarmed society. Duh! *TED (in solid copper 22 slugs) This one’s got my name on it.
