"Braille" Necklaces (TJ2)
(see # 6 on the Jewelry Page)
This has turned out to be the most popular kind of beadword necklace. I invented it for blind people, but sighted people like it a lot. The added texture really sets it apart, and makes it much easier to read. It uses large beads (E beads) and small beads (seed beads & bugle beads), instead of different colors, to spell the message. In this kind of necklace, the margin beads and spacer beads should only contain bugle and seed beads, not large beads. You can use the cheat sheet on page 19 to help you build these necklaces.
Your message is I Love You, with mb in E beads (EB), and bb in seed beads (SB) and bugle beads (BB). In this style of jewelry, all the colors can be the same.
The I is one SB, one EB, two SB, one EB, and one SB. The spacer beads are one BB, one SB, one BB, one SB, and one BB. L starts with one SB, one EB, two SB, three EB, two SB. one EB, two SB, one EB, and one SB. The bead between letters is just one BB. Now for the O. Start with one SB, three EB, two SB, three EB, two SB, three EB, and one SB. Add the BB. V is one SB, one EB, two SB, one EB, two SB, one EB, two SB, three EB, and one SB. Add the BB. The E is just one SB, one EB, and one SB. Put on spacer beads. Y is one SB, three EB, two SB, one EB, two SB, three EB, two SB, three EB, and one SB. Next is the BB. Repeat the O. Add another BB. All you have left is the U. It starts with one SB, one EB, two SB, one EB, two SB, three EB, and one SB. Excellent!
This style of beadword jewelry is similar to TJ4 because this kind uses the same sizes of beads (EB) for the message beads and the background beads. The message is read by different colors. The cheat sheet for this TJ5 is on page 20.
Your message is America , with mb in black, (bEB) and the bb in white (wEB).
The A is one bEB, one wEB, and three bEB. The beads between letters are three wEB. M is three bEB, one wEB, and three bEB. Now the three wEB. The E is simple - just one bEB. Now three wEB. R is one bEB, one wEB, three bEB, one wEB, and one bEB. Three wEB. I is one bEB, one wEB, and one bEB. Three wEB. C is three bEB, one wEB, one bEB, one wEB, three bEB, one wEB,and one bEB. Three wEB. A is one bEB, one wEB, and three bEB.
For the margins, just fill up the string with wEB until the necklace is the right size. The initials and number should be in seed beads. The colors of the initials should match the colors of the mb and the bb.
